Match Report

Boots headed to local rivals West Bridgford, knowing that this would be a good test of form against a strong local opponent who have been a solid Midlands Premier Team for many years and who have held National League status in their recent past.  Despite beng slightly below full strength, Boots ran out winners with an encouraging team performance.

Boots dominated the first half, with Bridgford holding off with a half-court press.  Boots were easily able to play the ball and launch attacks.  With neither team able to capitalise on early chances it was Boots who took the lead with some fine play leading to a composed finish by Damien Jarzembowski.  The goal sparked the game into life and Bridgford started to create chances of their own but some solid defending and a couple of excellent reaction saves by Boots keeper Freddie Sail, kept their goal intact.  Another finely constructed team goal ended with Josh Dent extending Boots lead to 2-0 and that was the way things stayed unitl half-time.

The second period started at a noticably higher tempo and more physical encounter.  The umpires kept order with cards to both sides but Boots held their discipline and did not venture into Yellow Card territory.  The middle period of the half saw Bridgford pile on the pressure and Mark Richardon started to make things tick for them, a fine individual passage of play ending with a well taken goal to bring the scoreline to 2-1.  A deffensive mis-hap 10 minutes from time bought Bridgford level at 2-2 with a goal against the run of play.  But, with the home side tiring Boots stepped up a gear, created chances and re-took the lead with another fine finish from Damien Jarzembowski.  The final 5 minutes saw Boots control the game to run out winners.

A well contested pre-season run out for both teams, but Boots no doubt the happier having played well as a team to take the win against a higher ranked team and take the local bragging rights.  All in all a great way to celebrate star striker Manny Soar's 30th bithday.

Manny commented after the win;

"It was brilliant to get the win today, the boys worked really hard and we are making good progress following last seasons promotion. Being my 30th birthday it was extra special and a great way to kick of my celebrations.  Special thanks to Phil Short and my team mates for keeping the surprise party as a secret"

Preparation for league in October continues at Lady Bay next week as the team take on Sihk Union Nottingham at 1.30pm.
