Match Report

After a strong Summer league campaign Boots kicked of their first Saturday fixture with a game against two EHL Conference Teams in their final preparation phase.

With a few players missing, Peterborough was the focus game and Boots played well.  Dominating the open 20 mins of play they had plenty of opportunity to take a lead but as legs tired in the heat, Peterborough's bench made the difference enabling them to go in to the break with a 2-0 lead after a fortuitous deflection and very well executed break-away goal in the final seconds of the half.

Boots started the second period strongly and openned the second half scoring.  The game stayed close with both sides having chances in front of goal.  Peterborough eventually regaining a 2 goal lead and then adding more on the break as Boots pressed high and the hot weather gave the advantage to the team with more players!

Vice Captain Alex Whitt commented: "It was a tough fixture but the difference in our stages of preparation and squad numbers available told the story in the end.  Some of the young lads and new boys into the team played well in this higher level game and so there are positives to take.  We have great team bond and that's key; club president Phil Short leads on this an I was grateful for his close attention this Saturday!".

Coach Andy Fairbrother added: "There were plenty of positives for us today and with the full squad returning next week we've made some good gains over the summer.  We'll be building over the next 3 weeks of friendlies and looking to start the league in confident mood".
