Match Report | It was a standard damp, overcast Autumnal day as West Bridgford hosted Boots in Round 1 of the EH Championship O40's Tier 2 Cup 2018/19. With creaking bones and following introductions, the game began, and it became apparent that the younger Boots O40's had the edge over their West Bridgford counterparts and so enjoyed the spoils in the early part of the match. Even with the lion’s share of possession the Boots team took a bit of time to settle and struggled to make inroads with the West Bridgford keeper making a number of saves. The scoring was eventually opened by Chris Read with a well-placed penalty corner. Another followed closely with Glenn Richardson scoring against his former club, leaving the score at 2-0 at half time. At the start of the second half the West Bridgford Team got their second wind and converted a well worked penalty corner to leave the game finely poised at 2-1. However, a cameo from coach Fairbrother (who couldn’t resist playing against one of his former clubs) and a Boots goal from Richardson all but extinguished the Bridgford come back. As the second half continued the West Bridgford team began to tire and a flurry of Boots goals completed the match. Ewan poached Glenn's hattrick, and there were nicely taken goals from Rich Butler and Shaun Phillips, leaving the final score at 6-1. All that was left was a thorough debrief in the West Bridgford clubhouse as the oldies reminisced about the good old days! |
