Beeston 3 Boots 1
With an unexpected loss to Northampton Saints seven days ago, Boots Ladies 1st XI were eager to perform against the league leaders and with a fine Saturday morning at Highfields and a good warm up, spirits were high and the team confident. However, the game plan was upset when Beeston scored first. Despite some good combinations down the right hand side involving Fran, Pip and Becky, profligate finishing on our part meant that the hosts were able to hold the lead at the interval, in an even contest.
High intensity and quality passing led to an equaliser early in the second half. A good move down the middle of the pitch was eventually switched to the left where a teasing ball was delivered and finished well by Sophie for a deserved leveller.
The contest remained close but eventually went the way of the Bees with two goals towards the latter part of the game. Whilst the scoreline was flattering to Beeston it was ultimately our decision making in both areas and at times a lack of basic skills which squandered possession and goal scoring opportunities. Conversely, the Bees were able to minimise their errors and put away their chances.
There were some good performances notably from Sarah, Pip, Ellie, Lynn and Claire G but our stand out player was Karen with some excellent interceptions, always beating her player to the ball and she deservedly took home the man of the match award.
Despite two consecutive losses and an unenviable position in the league table, roll on next week for the 1030am push back at Lady Bay against Matlock.
