Match Report | With promotion already sealed Boots Ladies 1st team were hoping to overtake Beeston at the top of the table in their last game of the season. Boots started out the better side playing some great attacking hockey down both sides of the pitch. However, relegation battlers Towcester soon got into their stride and began to rattle the home side. Some messy defending saw Towcester attack from back in their own half leading to them opening the scoring by taking advantage of a penalty corner. Half time was well used and Ellie Atkins equalised early in the second half with a well positioned drag flick into the bottom right hand corner. Boots then took hold of the game and several excellent moves should have seen more goals be put away. A great pass from the left hand side (can't remember who it was...sorry!) saw the Towcester goalkeeper eliminated for a tap in goal from Hannah....this didn't quite go to plan as it was deemed to be back of stick by the umpire after much deliberation! The final whistle went and it was clear that the Boots Ladies were frustrated as the 1-1 scoreline flattered Towcester, although they did maintain their unbeaten run at Ladybay. It also became evident that Beeston had won their final game so the blow of drawing this match wasn't as hard to take! This season has been an exceptional one for Boots, only losing 2 games (the best record in the league) all season and with the reward of a place in the Investec Womens National League hockey to follow next year.
