Match Report | Boots Men's 1st started with a defeat as they take on the challenge of retaining their Midlands Premier Division status. With Rugby held up in traffic and most of the team arriving just in time to start, the opening 15 minutes were frantic with chances and goals for each side. The game continued to ebb and flow with both teams extracting saves from their opposite goalkeeper. The evergreen Richard Major a calming influence on the visiting team as they gained a stronghold on the midfield area. In the end is was Rugby who were the more clinical in the circle turning a 2-4 half time lead into a 2-7 final score. A particularly well worked penalty corner to extend the lead to 2-5 was a deciding factor after a period of sustained Boots pressure on the Rugby goal. After the Game Josh Darby commented: "Obviously we are disappointed with the result. The lads have learned a lot today and we all know that we can play better as a unit. We'll be looking to put in a couple of quality training sessions in this week as we preparation for next Saturday." Injured skipper Ben Docherty added: "I can't fault the lads for effort today. There's a long way to go this season and so we've just got to learn and get better each week. I'm sure we'll develop as a team over the coming weeks. We'll also gain a few back from injury and with players like Manny Soar still to come back into the squad after childbirth we know we're going to get stronger." |
