Boots 1 v 1 Derwent Scorers - Manny Soar
In this must win game, we welcomed a new (but well known) face into the 1st team, Adam Innocent. Also, it was a return to his old stomping ground for ex-coach Tricky, who had brought his Derwent team to Fortress Bay. With both teams looking to push away from the bottom end of the table and keep on the tail of the teams at the top end, the game started with Boots keeping possession and moving well off the ball and pressing their defence into mistakes. Boots started to create in roads behind the Derwent defence and created the first short corner of the game. It didn't come to anything, however, Boots knew they were on top and that they had to keep this pressure to create the chance to go a goal up. This happened when Adam picked the ball up from the half way line and ran down the line at the defence and once he entered the 25, he slipped the ball to Manny at the right time, who saw the keeper charge out and he went round him and slotted the ball into the bottom corner, sending the huge 30,000 strong crowd wild (they were packed into the Forest Stadium watching our game on the big screen). Half time 1-0 up. Second half started quite similar to the first with both teams starting with equal amounts of possession but this time it was Derwent, who looked a bit more dangerous but Boots coped well with the pressure and began keeping the ball themselves but with amounts of possesion they had, goal scoring chances weren't created but still looked more dangerous. Then a massive moment of controversy when the umpires gave Derwent a short corner that never was and well they scored from it and it gave them energy to think they could actually snatch victory from Boots. Boots still had the majority of the possession and another short corner but Derwent created the chances and even had a short corner (which was a short) on the final whistle, which Derwent gladly put wide.
