Match Report |
Despite playing at “the fortress”, with great support and encouragement from the crowd, Boots disappointingly lost 3-1 against Kendal. Boots had a nervous start but once settled Boots played well, passing and moving the ball around with pace creating several opportunities to score a goal and take an early lead. Likewise, Kendal had some chances but with solid defending by Boots they were unable to score. The goalless first half resulted in both Kendal and Boots playing aggressively in order secure the first goal. Scrappy defending and a bit of luck meant Kendal took the lead within the first couple of minutes after the whistle. The goal knocked Boots’ confidence which Kendal took advantage of scoring their second goal from a short corner by a well-placed straight strike. Boots were definitely not going down without a fight and started attacked well, pushing forward aggressively to create several chances. A disallowed goal from Francis McKinnon gave Boots reassurance that they could make a comeback. Boots’ attacking phase continued and Kendals’ defence finally broke down resulting in a penalty flick being awarded after a goal line scramble. Needless to say, our hockey guru, Ann Fairbrother, effortlessly put the ball in the back of the net. It looked like Boots were going to pull it back but one final goal from Kendal called it a day. On the whole, it was too little, too late for Boots to become victorious. Man of the match votes were divided resulting in Clare Schulze, Ann Fairbrother and Lynn Combes sharing the title. |
