Match Report |
After the early start on the road to Manchester, upon arrival, Boots were ready and rearing to get their first points of the season. Both teams started with a high intensity; however, Brooklands had the upper hand and scored within the first two minutes, by creating a 2 v 1 against Boots’ keeper. Nevertheless, Boots’ heads did not go down. Boots fought back hard and with a quick turnover and an aggressive attack, a diving goal by Sophie Aspinall bought Boots back to a level field. Both teams continued to create several opportunities to score a goal, yet with solid defending, neither team succeeded and the game remained 1-1 at half time. After a positive team talk by Andy at the interval, Boots came out fighting. However, 10 minutes into the second half, Brooklands had a strong 15 minute period in which they scored three goals in quick succession. Their first being a free pass to their striker on the penalty spot who fired the ball into the bottom right hand corner from close range. Brooklands’ following two goals came from uncontested turnovers in their own half, with their fast pace and Boots on the back foot, Brooklands were able to score goals within minutes of each other. Boots recovered themselves and finished the game strong by regaining possession and creating chances. Unfortunately it was too little too late to salvage any points from the game. However, positives are that it was a strong performance on the whole, especially in the first half. Week by week, improvements are being made by the team and we should not be discouraged from the performance as Brooklands are a well drilled and experienced National League team, who had to work extremely hard to win. Onto next week, where we will have the home team advantage and hopefully with a big crowd behind us to cheer Boots on. |
