Match Report | Playing against a team who have had a successful start to the season, Boots knew this game would be tough. However, this did not intimidate Boots. We may have not had the best start to the season, but we do not go down without a fight, which most likely came as a shock to the opposition! Boots dominated the game for the majority of the first half. Within the first 10 minutes alone, we had created plenty of chances to sneak an early goal. Once Whitley Bay had adjusted themselves to our very own Bay, they gained more possession. Both teams had strong attacks resulting in a number of short corners, yet with solid defending on behalf of both teams, neither could score. The score remained 0-0 at half time. With the second half underway, it remained in a similar fashion as neither side convincingly dominated, playing at the same intensity as fast attacks were met by firm defending. Boots’ attacks on goal resulted in a number of short corners and, with desperate defending; Whitley Bay only just managed to keep the ball from crossing the line. Ultimately, with how the game was progressing, Boots were looking like they would achieve their first points of the season, either by holding out for a draw or piling on the pressure for a goal. However, with minutes to go, a momentary lapse in concentration saw Whitley Bay score a goal. It was improbable that Boots would score with the time remaining and the fact that Whitley Bay ensured all their players were behind the ball to secure the win. It was a great game of hockey for both players and supporters. The game also proves that Boots are worthy of being in this league as we put up a fight and were only just second best to a team who are most likely looking for promotion. Regardless of our position in the league, teams should not underestimate us. Boots are expecting a similar standard against top of the league Durham next weekend and we will put our all in, as we do every game, to gain points. |
