Match Report | Despite the home advantage, Boots were unable to come away with any points against Stourport. A team who had only been promoted a couple of seasons ago, it was most likely Boots were expecting the same team. The game was underway and Boots started strong. For the first time this season, Boots went a goal up, with Becky Simms scoring at the back post. Confidence began to creep into the side and belief we could achieve our first points of the season. Boots passed the ball around the pitch well and with composure, creating chances that were narrowly missed. Our attacks were met with solid defending by Stourport preventing us to score. Despite Boots’ robust performance, nearing the end of the first half, Stourport scored and the half finished 1-1. So onto the second half – this will be brief. All credit to Stourport, whose basic skills were spot on and are well drilled team, managed to score 6 goals passed Boots in the second half, with no reply. Obviously not to Boots’ usual high standards, as previous defeats sometimes flattered teams, however Boots seemed to switch off in a big way and lost all confidence after the third goal was scored. The game was frustrating as, during the past couple of games although Boots were defeated, the team had improved immensely and had given two teams at the top of the table a tough game. With both of these games, obviously we were disappointed with the defeated, but the team came off the pitch knowing they had put everything into that game. Nevertheless, Saturday’s game seemed as though we had taken 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. Next week we must perform better as a team, as well as individually. Boots are away against Bradford Wakefield who have had a very good start of the season and are nearing the top of the table. This won’t knock us down as previous games show that we play well against better teams. Hopefully this will follow in a similar fashion, and with any luck we can get some points on the board! |
