Match Report

The game we have been waiting for. Boots arrived at Ben Rhydding knowing there would be a huge possibility for our first win of the season in the bottom of the table clash. Warming up feeling confident and ready for what we knew would be a tough 70 minutes.

Ben Rhydding started strong and held possession for the first quarter. Boots gathered themselves and began piling on the pressure. Both teams had plenty of chances but neither took advantage. A bad tackle in the D allowed Ben Rhydding to take a penalty flick. A fantastic save by Man of the Match Clare Schulze kept Boots in the game. This could be seen as the turning point in the match for Boots. If Ben Rhydding had scored, there is a high possibility that Boots’ heads could have gone down – instead, Boots found a second wind and retain possession and created chances for the remainder of the half.

With the second half underway, the game was end to end stuff. Both teams fought hard and were passionate – some more than others, with Sophie Aspinall ending up frolicking with a Ben Rhydding player, in front of the crowds, after getting in a tangle from a tackle. Following this, Ben Rhydding were rightfully disallowed a goal by the umpires, by the ball hitting the opposition’s foot in the D before the shot on goal. This was a great relief for Boots as a draw fairly reflected the game. It was a tense end to the game, which saw Boots gain their first point of the season!
