Match Report | Our mixed set of results continues, though this week with a more positive outcome - a win! Once again we showed what we're capable of when we play the ball around early, creating plenty of chances and keeping the Beeston keeper busy throughout the game. Mark Fish made a welcome return to our strikeforce, scoring twice in the first half in a congested D, with Jon Cobb also returning after a lengthy absence, to add extra pace and creativity to our right midfield. 2-0 at half time, with the minimum of genuine threat in defence - the second half was likely to be about discipline, and whether Beeston were going to hit the self-destruct button and continue to lay-into the umpiring, or actually come out fighting and play some hockey. It was Boots however who took control of the game again early in the second half, with Jim Caron doing well to follow up a shot by Lewis Griggs, and ensure the ball crossed the line for the all-important third goal. Fishy then finished off another great move to claim his hat-trick and move up to joint first in our scoring charts (pressure's on you Max!). We then lost a bit of concentration in the last 15 minutes, conceding a couple of avoidable goals after we tried to be a bit too clever playing the ball around in our own half and paid the price. However we kept our heads up and rode out a tough last 5 minutes, so pick up a good win, lifting us out of the drop zone and only 6 points from a promotion spot! |
