Match Report |
Boots continued their winning streak with a 4 -1 victory over Trent Vale on Saturday. For the first time this season we started strong and we were attacking in to the opposition D from the start. It did take a while to find our rhythm, but that would be expected as there were four 3s players who had dropped down to get involved with some 4’s winning action. However, within minutes we relaxed and were moving the ball around the pitch opening up space and attacking in packs which resulted in the first goal by Sophie which was a strike at the top D which deflected into the air by the defence and landed neatly behind the keepers head. A brilliant first goal! Trent Vale fought back and snuck a goal past joint man of the match keeper Sally, who up until this point had been fending off numerous strikes and delivering the ball successfully back out to the wings to advance another attack. This woke the team back up again and we fought back with a goal from Sevim which was beautifully executed out of a two on one attack with Martina. The second half showed the skill and fitness of the team as we managed to open up more and more space for attacks. Joint man of the match Kristy, found herself free again and again on the left and made great runs into the D. Pushing up behind where the midfield and defence who had a great game and even though the opposition were playing two high goal hangers, we found ourselves defending many attacks at the halfway line and taking possession, enabling us to make a quick counter attack. This paid off with another two goals both from short corners. One by Claire and another cheeky one by Ali O on the post. A brilliant end to a great match. A well deserved win to put us top of the league, and as Kat (final joint man of the match) described it, we played; “beautiful hockey!” (Written by Kat) |
