National League + Friendlies Mark 2

Posted by Nobody on 11 September 2013

After last weekends games, which saw victories for the Mens 3s and Ladies 4s and draws for the Ladies 1s and 3 it's time for the Ladies 1s to begin their campaign in the Investec Womens Conference North with an away game at Doncaster. Doncaster finished 7th (/10) in the league last season, with only one home victory all season so I'm sure Andy, Karen and the girls are looking forward to Boots' first ever game in nation league.

RESULTS

Mens 1s vs Coalville (4-5): A fiesty performance from the mens 1s with new coach Phil Rhodes at the helm against a team that looked keen and eager for the upcoming season. A game for the spectators, I'm sure the inclusion of some of the clubs youngsters will have pleased Phil x 2 who will be looking forward to having his full squad back.

Mens 2s vs Mens 3s (2-5): Against the form book the Mens 3s beat the Mens 2s, although players were missing from both sides. When I left it was 1-0, so I can't comment much on the game....3s captain Cresdee was rather pleased.

Ladies 1s vs Bowden 2s (sat) (2-2)
Ladies 1s vs Gloucester 1s (sun) (0-2): The last preparation games for the ladies 1s before their national league campaign begins saw a draw and a loss, but plenty of positives to work on.

Ladies 2s vs Edgbaston (Sat) (0-4)
Ladies 2 vs Newark 1s (Sun) (2-4)

Coach Amo and new skipper Lucy were keen to implement a new formation this year and both games against higher league opposition saw the first opportunity to put it into place. The first half against Edgbaston was 0-4 as the team struggled to get to grips with the formation, but the second half was a well fought draw as they settled into position. On Sunday there were some new faces against a feisty Newark side, however they played the game well. A first goal at the club for Jana (casual reverse stick) and a sublime goal by the author off the hand* were well earnt and the team will be looking forward to the double header next weekend.

*Opinions are my own, and thankfully the umpire was one of the few people on the pitch to agree with it.

Ladies 3s vs WB Monarchs 2s (1-1)

Some new faces and a solid performance by the Ladies 3s allowing captain Lisa to suss out positions. New coach Manny will be excited to get to work with the squad on Thursday for the first time (hope you enjoyed America Manny!)

Ladies 4s vs Redhill (5-0)0Fantastic result for Claire and the girls which will give them great hope for the season!
