18 days till Christmas...Hockey!
Posted by Nobody on 6 December 2013
We’ve reached December, and most teams have just 2 more games before we get to stuff ourselves silly over Christmas (Coach – I definitely mean keep up the fitness ready for January….ahem).
The Ladies 1s and 2s have finished their half season, and things have gotten even better!…) It seems the Ladies 1s can’t stop picking up point, and a fantastic 3-2 win over Kendal pushes them up into joint 8th place and out of the relegation play-off spot and 5 points clear of the dreaded automatic relegation. A fantastic last 4 games for them & the club are definitely well positioned to maintain their national league status! The Ladies 2s managed to score 4 times against Ashbourne, but the umpires managed to chalk 3 of them off and the team won confidently 1-0. This puts them top of the league over Xmas – hurrah! Ladies 4s also won (again, 7-0…), and they are joint top of their league with a game in hand. The Ladies 3s drew 1-1 against Southwell Brincliffe (I’ve heard from several sources re. umpiring…), and the Ladies 5s lost 3-1 to 3rd place Trent Value, but they put in a top performance that will give them confidence against mid-table Newark this week.
In the mens section, the 2s have found some form to win 4-0 against Coalville, the mens 3s remain undefeated with victory against Warwick (4-2) and have resumed their place top of the table. The Mens 4s came up against Loughborough Students, who somehow have ended up in that league. I’ve heard that one of their 15 goals was basically a reverse strike from the baseline – something that we see every day in Central Leagues -East Mids Prem…. I guess at least the Mens 6s imposed similar punishment on local rivals South Notts by winning 10-2!
The mixed team beat Derbyshire Police 4-2, despite some questionable umpiring decisions from Mr Edgar (The Mixed Team Captain…), and it’s great to see most teams represented.
