The Ladies 1st Team have been busy training hard for their first National League appearance on Saturday September 14th. Pitch sessions have been going well for almost a month, but this weekend saw the squad take on Horsham (Sat) and then Saint Albans (Sun) in friendly matches.
The games were played as 3x25 mins and the results were very credible against esatblished EHL teams. A narrow 4 - 3 loss to Horsham was a solid start. Having led for much of the game Boots played some nice attacking hockey to put their more experienced opposition on the back foot. In the end it was a little bit of that experience (and a few more substitutes) that mean Horsham sneaked the winning goal with 5 mins to go, but Boots kept pushing and had a chance to even the scores just before the final whistle.
Saint Albans on Sunday was a faster paced game and offered Boots the chance to experience and step up to the pace and physicallity of the National League. They did so in fine style winning the first 2 periods of play, each 1 - 0. In the final period it was an opportunity to for new coach, Andy Fairbrother, to experiment with new formations and although Saint Albans won that period to level to overall score at 3-3. Boots gained much confidence from their performance.
Overall a very strong start to the clubs first National League campaign, the hard work continues! : )
