The Vets Go Marching into Rd4

The Mens over40's today cruised into the last 16 of the National Vets Cup with a convincing 6-1 win over Worcester, Beeston's vanquishers in the last round.
With a nearly full strength squad, Boots were confident of progressing in the vets tournament, but Worcester were potentially going to be tricky opponents.
The first few minutes were tight but Boots still held the edge. The deadlock was broken by a great piece of individuality from Mark Fish who received the ball on the half way line and ran half the pitch before slotting it past the keeper. The rest of the first half was all Boots, with Mike Thompson in the Boots goal being rarely tested.
Keeping up the pressure, Boots doubled the lead five minutes before half time, with a goal from Paul Hughes. This gave a cushion to the home side that their first half display fully deserved.
The next goal after the break was crucial, and it was Boots who scored it - within six minutes of the restart, Shaun Phillips kept a cool head to put the home side 3-0 up. By the 45th minute Amo Saur had added a fourth and the game was effectively dead and buried.
Frustration from Worcester led to one of their side being shown a yellow for a robust off the ball challenge on Alex Brown on 55 mins. Whilst Worcester were down to 10 men, Boots extended their lead with further goals from Mark Fish and Dave Hack, giving them a resounding 6-0 lead.
Worcester scored a consolation from a deflected short corner 10 minutes from time, but the comeback never looked likely.
Boots march on to the round of 16.
Thanks to all of the supporters who came along to watch.
The next round is on February 16th. Hope it's a home draw.
